X-Erinnerungen / Route Norden

For “X-Erinnerungen”, local and international artists go in search of traces in St. Pölten. A total of 21 locations, including private apartments, abandoned factories and hidden clubhouses, will become places where memories are negotiated.

 

Along three routes in the north, south and through the center of St. Pölten, the participating artists will develop ten-minute performances, plays, concerts and installations, which will be explored in groups of two. Researched, imagined and remembered material is combined with local contexts. The boundaries between public and private, between reality and staging, become blurred and invite you to become an archaeologist of your own city.

 

 

Route Norden

Terraced houses, abandoned villas, and former workers' settlements alternate with newly built apartments perfectly tailored to the needs of their residents. In the northern periphery, a wide variety of architectural forms and the life stories intertwined with them are gathered in a small area. For example, in the former Glasscherbenviertel around the Glanzstoff factory, whose sulphur smell hung over the city for years and is still remembered by the children of the factory workers. As one of the most important employers, this place determined not only the rhythm of work but also the lives and homes of many families in the neighbourhood. As accusations against social continuities, tracing of personal memory gaps, or oratorio from the past: During "X-Erinnerungen" in the north of St. Pölten, various artistic idioms give a sense of what might soon be forgotten and how, under the influence of current political forces, our memories of tomorrow are shaped.

Abdalrahman Alqalaq is a Palestinian writer, poet, and performer. His German debut in poetry and prose, "Übergangsritus," will be published in autumn 2024 by Wallstein Verlag.

 

Institute for Media, Politics, and Theatre works as a collective at the intersection of theatre and journalism. Previous works have been staged at Kosmos Theater Wien, Tiroler Landestheater, Schauspielhaus Graz, and Volkstheater Wien. In 2022, they were invited to the "Radikal jung Festival 2023" with "Gondelgschichten."

 

Tim Etchells is an artist and a writer based in the UK whose work shifts between performance, visual art and fiction. He is the leader of the world-renowned performance group Forced Entertainment. For X-Erinnerungen he is collaborating with artist Vincent Gambini (Augusto Corrieri).

 

Seba Kayan is a St Pölten born DJ and sonic artist, who is reshaping the musical landscape with her unique fusion of sound and culture. Drawing from her European and Kurdish heritage, she weaves together a sonic tapestry that defies traditional boundaries.

 

Rainy Miller is a multi-disciplinary artist and label head (Fixed Abode), who gained recognition through his involvement in the emerging Grime scene in Preston. Miller is striving to push the boundaries within contemporary popular music, creating without limiting himself to any given genre. His second solo project A Choreographed Interruption (2021), is a poetic and emotionally penetrating audio-visual study of loss and longing.

Starting point:
The tour starts at Bahnhofsplatz 1, St. Pölten in a vacant store to the left of the Waggon-Café.

 

General information:
You decide on a starting time in advance. We ask you to arrive at the starting point at least 10 minutes before the start time.

If you arrive late, we will unfortunately have to release your ticket. As there are always two of you on the tour, no more than two tickets can be purchased per route. The end point will be connected to the main station by public transport. 

Between the seven individual stations you will walk for approx. 5-15 minutes. We ask that you bring good shoes, sufficient water and a small snack, sun protection or rainwear if necessary.
